The opposition has denounced Saturday's election as illegitimate, asserting that the sitting president, Salome Zourabichvili, is the only legitimate leader of Georgia.
Protesters gathered outside the parliament building as an electoral college controlled by the ruling party convened to install Mikheil Kavelashvili, a former footballer, as president.
Zourabishvili, in a jibe at Kavelashvili, highlighted the protests by sharing a video of people playing football in the snow, representing defiance amidst political strife.
Natia Apkhazava, a protester, expressed the determination of demonstrators, stating, 'We have been protesting here for 16 days, and we'll keep fighting for our European future.'
