Gary McAllister, chairman of the AONISC, described the treatment of Northern Ireland fans in Bulgaria as the "worst experience" in his 27 years of supporting the team, highlighting the "shameful and totally unacceptable" conditions they faced during the Nations League game.
He mentioned that fans were subjected to a lack of basic rights, including access to water and toilet facilities, after being locked into their section of the stadium, and expressed concern over one fan who ended up in the hospital after an attack.
McAllister criticized the Bulgarian police for refusing to provide shuttle buses, a common arrangement at away games, and pointed out their insistence on an elongated walking route to the stadium despite high temperatures.
He emphasized that, after protests from representatives, the police eventually agreed to a more direct four-kilometer route, which still resulted in a lengthy walk in the heat, illustrating the neglect of fan welfare.
