Ukraine's sanctions prevent Lukoil from using its territory to deliver pipeline crude oil to some EU countries. Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic still receive Russian crude oil via Ukraine.
Hungary and Slovakia imported 2.6 billion worth of crude oil from Russia in the first half of 2024. They are most affected due to dependence on Russian oil and have asked the EU to mediate with Ukraine.
European Commission is assessing the impact of Ukraine's sanctions on crude oil supply to Hungary and Slovakia. Detailed questions have been raised to analyze current transit volumes, existing contracts, alternative supply routes, and associated costs.
