US tariffs of 200pc on pharma could lead to shortages of medicine - Taoiseach
Briefly

High tariffs, up to 200%, would severely impact US pharmaceutical companies who thrive on the lucrative European market. Any disruption in supply chains risks not only medicine availability but also the companies' fortitude. European leaders emphasize the harm tariffs inflict on economies and advocate for consensus to avoid a damaging trade war. Inflammatory trade relations intertwine with concerns over Russia's military rearmament, which poses escalating threats to European security beyond Ukraine, highlighting the need for vigilance against misinformation and geopolitics.
Tariffs of that scale would damage the companies, would everybody but would damage the companies as well. Never forget, the companies have become strong...because of access to a lucrative European market.
We didn't want tariffs, Europe didn't go looking for tariffs, we believe tariffs are injurious to economy and does damage.
An escalation, or a trade war...would be very, very damaging indeed to everybody. We have to think of workers, we have to think of citizens.
Notwithstanding our geographic location, that we do have an appreciation of the extension of the threats...perpetrated by Russia. Russia is re-arming at an alarming rate.
