The opposition remains fragmented, lacking a unified vision or leader after the death of Alexei Navalny, leaving many doubtful about its effectiveness against Putin.
"It is a disparate array of individuals and small groups who basically do not even pretend to be one, who do not have a vision for Russia that they share and that they would put forward," said Maria Lipman, highlighting the lack of cohesion in the opposition.
With the invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent political repression, many activists have gone into exile, while those who stayed face arrests and intimidation, significantly reducing opposition's visibility.
The death of Navalny has had a devastating impact; his supporters see it as a state-sponsored murder, creating a vacuum of leadership within the opposition.
