"We use these tools to monitor irregular migration routes and detect cross-border crimes such as smuggling. They are particularly useful because they provide real-time video feeds," explained Krzysztof Borowski, spokesperson of Frontex.
Ursula von der Leyen stated that Russia is luring migrants from Yemen up north and pushing them deliberately against the Finnish border. This is part of the reason why we must strengthen Frontex.
Activists and NGOs have expressed strong criticism regarding the increase in Frontex's resources, fearing that it could lead to pushing migrants back into authoritarian regimes.
The decision to strengthen Frontex comes at a time of high immigration rates and increasing calls by EU member states to process asylum applications in third countries.
