Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski stated, "Membership in NATO does not trump each country's responsibility for the protection of its own airspace - it's our own constitutional duty." He emphasized Poland's right to defend its airspace, even if it means intercepting missiles over Ukraine, recognizing the immediate threat they pose.
Sikorski warned that intercepting hostile missiles and drones whilst they are still in Ukrainian airspace is a matter of legitimate self-defense, as once these threats cross into Polish airspace, the danger escalates significantly due to potential debris injuring civilians.
