Nearly five years after North Korea sealed its borders due to COVID-19, it will reopen to Western tourists in December 2024. Travel agencies reported renewed interest.
Simon Cockerell of Koryo Tours expressed surprise at the notifications from Pyongyang, saying there was significant pent-up demand for North Korea tourism following long border closures.
With the borders tightly shut since early 2020, the last group of Western tourists had visited North Korea just before the pandemic-related isolation took effect.
Travel inquiries about North Korea from various countries indicate strong public interest, particularly from tourists who have eagerly awaited access after COVID-19 restrictions.
