The Israeli claims have underscored the risks of so-called safe zones in Gaza, which the U.N. has opposed, instead urging that Gazans be allowed to take shelter in buildings such as schools and hospitals, which are protected under international humanitarian laws.
In the last week alone, the high-profile resignations of right-wing lawmakers on opposite sides of the Atlantic sent ripples through the political establishment, driving home once again how Britain and the U.S. have been lashed together in the populist storms unleashed by Brexit and Donald Trump.
