Evan Gershkovich: Russia denies US journalist's appeal DW 01/26/2024
Briefly

Russian state news agencies on Friday reported that Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich had lost an appeal against his detention. The 32-year-old is the first US citizen to face spying charges since 1986 when the Soviet KGB secret service Nicholas Daniloff, a Moscow correspondent for US News and World Report, was arrested.
The Russian Federal Security Service alleged that the reporter, 'acting on the instructions of the American side, collected information constituting a state secret about the activities of one of the enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex.'
Both Gershkovich and his newspaper deny the allegations and the US government says the journalist has been wrongly detained.
