China, Japan and South Korea to strengthen free trade DW 03/30/2025
Briefly

China, Japan, and South Korea convened for their first economic dialogue in five years in Seoul, focusing on strengthening trade ties amid US President Trump's impending tariffs on imports. Attended by trade ministers from each country, they highlighted the need for improved free trade and cooperation on a trilateral agreement. Previous tensions, notably territorial disputes, have stalled significant progress on trade negotiations since 2012. The ministers agreed to enhance implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and create a stable environment for trade and investment.
The three countries agreed to create "a predictable trade and investment environment," a joint statement said.
South Korean Trade Minister Ahn Duk-geun emphasized the need to strengthen RCEP and develop a framework for expanded cooperation via Korea-China-Japan FTA negotiations.
