A report by the World Meteorological Organization reveals alarming climate trends, confirming 2024 was the warmest year in over 175 years, reaching a temperature of 1.55°C above preindustrial levels. Each of the past decade's years ranked among the hottest, driven by human-induced greenhouse gas emissions. Critical indicators showed atmospheric carbon dioxide and ocean heat content at all-time highs, emphasizing a dire need for global climate action.
"That's never happened before," Chris Hewitt, the director of the WMO's climate services division, emphasized the unprecedented clustering of the 10 warmest years in the past decade.
In 2023, the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide reached its highest levels in the last 800,000 years, illustrating the urgent need to address greenhouse gas emissions.
