Turkey saw wildfires mainly in western regions, leading to the evacuation of over 50,000 people. France's Corbières region experienced wildfires that prompted a red weather alert and road closures. Historical contexts include extensive fires in Greece, Croatia, and Portugal during previous years, necessitating evacuations and repatriation flights.
In August 2024, wildfires spread through Greece in areas near Athens, where flames reportedly reached heights of over 20 metres. Thousands of people, including holidaymakers, were evacuated across these countries.
At the time of writing (Tuesday 1 July 2025), there are wildfires raging across Turkey's western regions, with reports of forest fires in the French region of Corbières.
