Leaders from Los Gatos and Saratoga met at the Los Altos Community Center on Aug. 29 to begin narrowing how the federal government can help wildfire resilience. Los Gatos officials prioritized funding mechanisms for future improvements, standardized building and zoning codes for high fire hazard hillside areas, and an integrated app to deliver emergency public service announcements. Saratoga prioritized hardening evacuation routes, roadway capacity, and retaining walls. Both communities emphasized fuel reduction such as managing brush and trees and noted use of federal funds like FEMA grants routed through the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services.
