"The tiny mountain lion cub walked clumsily, its meow a high-pitched squeak, rather than a threatening roar. A latest addition to Orange County's wildlife population was captured on camera in south Orange County an insanely adorable baby mountain believed to be no more than a 1 month old. Wildlife photographer Mark Girardeau, creator of Orange County Outdoors, caught the animal on his trail cam navigating the area about a week ago,"
"original sound The SoCal Local The SoCal Local Girardeau has become familiar with the local mountain lion population through the years, capturing many of them on his trail cameras set on private property throughout the region, at times teaming up with UC Davis to add data to its long-term research projects on the species. He even came face-to-face twice with mountain lion Uno,"
A roughly one-month-old mountain lion cub was recorded by a trail camera in south Orange County. The cub walked clumsily and produced a high-pitched meow rather than a roar. The footage was captured about a week earlier and was reviewed days later by the wildlife photographer. A larger female lioness named Maple, with a sagging belly, appeared in another clip and is likely the cub’s mother. The sighting is encouraging for a species whose movement and ability to thrive have been limited by human development. Ongoing trail-camera monitoring has supported collaboration with UC Davis on long-term research.
