Most projected heat deaths will occur in poor, hot countries in Africa and South Asia that emitted relatively little of the pollution driving the crisis and are least prepared to cope. Extra greenhouse gases from the next decade could cause as many as 1.3 million additional temperature-related deaths worldwide in the 80 years after 2035.
