Veolia’s orchard programme encourages schools to integrate nature into education by providing apple, pear trees, and strawberry patches. Across eight schools, pupils plant their own fruit trees to foster an appreciation of environmental sustainability. This initiative includes providing soil conditioners to enrich the earth and preserve carbon levels. The educational sessions allow children to learn about nurturing these plants and understanding the benefits of locally-sourced produce. Veolia's Pascal Hauret states the initiative aims to inspire sustainability in youth, linking their education with practical, environmental stewardship.
Fruit tree saplings have been planted in eight school playgrounds to encourage outdoor learning and sustainable practices as part of a nationwide orchard programme.
The orchard programme, aimed at connecting children with nature, has been created by Veolia and includes 1,500 apple and pear trees, alongside 1,900 strawberry patches.
Veolia's Pascal Hauret emphasized the initiative's goal, stating, 'We are building a more sustainable future...inspiring positive practices in young people.'
The initiative provides schools with soil conditioner and topsoil, contributing to biodiversity while educating pupils on caring for their orchards and growing fresh fruit.
