"If you're in the Northern Plains, Great Lakes, or New England states, consider this your warning: this winter is going to be quite cold."
"New England is on top for a snow lover's dream,"
"Up and down the Atlantic Coast, the almanac predicts a wet-and-wild mix"
"Don't lose track of your snow shovels and umbrellas. Most areas will experience near-normal to slightly milder temperatures"
"Remember: 'Mild' is relative. It's still winter-so plan (and dress!) accordingly. And if you're in a snow-prone area, don't retire that shovel just yet."
Last winter brought milder temperatures across New England but remained somewhat wet and snowy. Two rival almanacs offer opposing forecasts for the coming winter. The Farmers' Almanac warns of a cold, snow-filled season across the Northern Plains, Great Lakes, and New England and predicts a wet-and-wild Atlantic Coast. The Old Farmer's Almanac forecasts near-normal to slightly milder temperatures with lighter-than-average snow in parts of the Northeast and only bursts of snow, though the Atlantic Corridor could see holiday and late-winter snowfall. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration does not provide a clearer forecast.
