"This is a very large storm that's going to impact a large area of the United States, starting with as far west as eastern New Mexico, and then continuing through Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, through the Ohio River Valley, even up into the northeast,"
"As far as the freezing rain potential, that looks highest as you get into northern Louisiana, southeast Arkansas, northern Mississippi, and then including southern middle Tennessee as well,"
"You can't drive in it even if you have four-wheel drive."
"Once you get over half an inch, you're talking about possibly power lines breaking without trees or anything falling on them."
An expansive winter storm will produce freezing rain, ice, sleet, and heavy snow across a large portion of the United States from eastern New Mexico through the South, the Ohio River Valley, and into the Northeast. Western areas will begin feeling impacts Friday with the system moving east through Monday. The Northeast faces heavy snow and potential blinding snow squalls while southern areas face crippling ice and sleet, with highest freezing rain risk in northern Louisiana, southeast Arkansas, northern Mississippi, and southern middle Tennessee. Freezing rain can break branches and power lines, and frigid air will linger after the storm. Several governors have declared states of emergency and preparations are advised.
