Renewable energy capacity increased by approximately 700 GW last year, marking a 16 percent growth. Wind power contributed 160 GW, while hydro added 18 GW. Other renewables like geothermal and biofuels saw a smaller increase of under four gigawatts. This growth represents 86 percent of the overall increase in global generating capacity, with total renewable capacity exceeding 5.1 terawatts. Asia leads with 2.9 terawatts, primarily due to wind and solar expansion in China, followed by Europe with nearly one terawatt installed.
