A planning application has been lodged with Mayo County Council for a seven-turbine wind farm on a 65-hectare site about 5km northwest of Claremorris. Cunlaghfadda Green Energy Limited is seeking 10-year planning permission for turbines across the townlands of Knockroe, Cunlaghfadda, Harefield, Cloonbaul, and Knockaunakill. The turbines are proposed to have blade-tip heights of 160 metres, with an operational lifespan of 35 years from full commissioning. The project is estimated to generate about 31.5 megawatts of renewable energy for the national electricity grid. The nearest settlement is Mayo Abbey, about 2.4km northwest of the nearest turbine. Community engagement included information packs, door-to-door visits, letters, and an information clinic. The proposal includes a community benefit fund, employment, and annual commercial rates, and it would connect directly to the Castlebar-to-Cloon 110kV transmission line.
