More rain and cold on the way - grim forecast as Met Eireann issues Status Yellow warning
"There could be snow on higher ground by Tuesday this week with the forecaster warning that conditions are set to turn 'wintry'. Meteorologist Siobhán Ryan described the outlook for next week, with wet and cold weather expected. "We're looking at successive areas of low pressure bringing continuation of this unsettled weather," she said. "Cold and breezy into the new week with further bands of heavy rain, possibly even turning wintry in places, particularly later on Tuesday," she added."
"Following a wet week, a Status Yellow rain warning has been issued by Met Éireann for one county this weekend. Wicklow can expect spells of heavy rain at times today and tonight, especially for higher ground. The national forecaster has also warned of localised flooding and difficult travel conditions. The warning will be in place from 11am today until 3am on Sunday morning."
Successive areas of low pressure will maintain unsettled conditions, bringing cold, breezy weather with repeated bands of heavy rain. There is a risk of widespread frost and ice by Monday night, and snow could occur on higher ground by Tuesday as conditions turn wintry. A Status Yellow rain warning applies to Wicklow from 11am today until 3am Sunday, with spells of heavy rain, potential localised flooding, and difficult travel, especially on higher ground. The Met Office issued a rain warning for all six Northern Ireland counties from 6pm Saturday to 9am Sunday. Northern and inland areas may see drier spells and some mist or fog.
