""[But] seeing the support and dedication of our volunteer team, visitors and local community to tidy, repair, and eventually reopen the hide, has been inspiring,""
""We are incredibly grateful for this support and look forward to welcoming visitors back to the hide.""
""Visitors may be lucky enough to glimpse shot-eared owls and barn owls as the evenings draw in, or the rare spoonbill, or a Merlin hovering overhead,""
""Birds on passage to other countries may be seen, such as wheatear, whinchat, and stonechat, alongside waders like wintering redshank, lapwing and possibly golden plover.""
Vandals heavily damaged the interior, windows and accessible lift of the Shooting Butts Hide at Rainham Marshes. Local volunteers, visitors and the community helped tidy and repair the hide. The RSPB invested about £40,000 in restoration, including roller shutters and new security patrols. The building, which supports wildlife photographers, is scheduled to reopen on Saturday. Staff reported other minor but deflating incidents like broken fences. The reopening coincides with autumn migration, offering chances to see species such as short-eared owls, barn owls, spoonbill, Merlin, wheatear, whinchat, stonechat and wintering waders.
