Man treks 53 miles in bird costume to raise awareness about endangered species
Briefly

Matt Trevelyan, a 46-year-old bird enthusiast, walked 53 miles over Easter dressed as the endangered Eurasian Curlew to raise awareness for conservation. His costume, made from bamboo and polystyrene, highlights the plight of the Curlew, which has suffered population declines due to habitat loss and climate change. Completing the walk along the Nidderdale Way with friends and family, Matt aimed to draw attention to World Curlew Day, which focuses on the challenges facing this iconic bird since its establishment in 2017.
The Curlew is my favorite bird and I've been saddened as their numbers have reduced massively around the UK.
The walk was a joy - there were beautiful views and the weather was perfect.
As long as I pointed the beak in the correct direction and ducked underneath the occasional branch I was fine.
World Curlew Day was created in 2017 to raise awareness of the declining numbers of curlews and the troubles they face.
