"A spokesperson for Premier Tree Care & Conservation confirmed the tree was "sadly removed in error" and said the company has liaised with residents to apologise. They said: "We understand the strength of feeling from the residents and we are taking every action to ensure the matter is resolved swiftly and smoothly." A Richmond Council spokesperson said the felling was not authorised by them and it would be "discussing this situation with Ealing Council and the contractor to prevent a repeated event."
"An Ealing Council spokesperson said they were liaising with Richmond Council on "the best course of action for the tree's replacement. They said: "Since the incident, the residents of Priory Road have been apologised to and reassured that a similar cherry tree will be replaced straight away, in fact, a replacement tree has been sourced and instruction from Richmond Council as to when it can be planted is being awaited, which we hope will be in the next few days."
Contractors from Premier Tree Care & Conservation accidentally cut down a cherry tree on Priory Road in Kew while intending to remove a tree on a different Priory Road in South Acton. Neighbours described the tree as healthy, mature and very beautiful. A nearby resident said contractors claimed the tree was diseased. The company apologised, confirmed the removal was an error, and liaised with residents. Richmond Council said the felling was unauthorised, will remove the stump, repair the pit and replace the tree this planting season, and will seek to recover costs from the contractor. Ealing Council is coordinating the replacement and a replacement tree has been sourced.
