An investigation has been initiated following a fire that destroyed ten hectares of grass and shrubland in Rainham. The blaze occurred on Rainham Road and was attended by twelve fire engines and approximately 80 firefighters. Fire crews managed to bring the fire under control by 6.20pm. Firefighters remain on-site to dampen the surrounding grassland. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with special wildfire response vehicles utilized to enhance firefighting efforts in the area.
A wildfire response vehicle was deployed at the incident. These vehicles provide off-road capability enabling the transportation of additional equipment closer to fires on open ground. Each vehicle carries approximately 475 litres of water, a backpack blower, ear defenders, beaters and misting lance technology, which allows firefighters to pump water and drive, enabling them to tackle grass fires more quickly and safely.
