Go North East introduced 29 UK-built Wrightbus battery-electric double-deckers, bringing zero-emission operation to the Angel 21, X66 and service 58 routes. The programme, funded by Go North East, the North East Combined Authority and the Department for Transport, represents a £17 million public-private investment and will serve more than five million passengers annually across Newcastle, Durham and Gateshead. Charging infrastructure is installed at the Riverside depot with grid connections provided by Northern Powergrid. Vehicles feature audio-visual next-stop announcements, hearing loops and external acoustic warning systems to meet accessibility and safety requirements while improving air quality and passenger comfort.
