Fossil fuel firms must plug methane leaks to meet climate targets, warns watchdog
Briefly

Leaks from coalmines and oil and gas wells are the biggest sources of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. About 170bn cubic meters of methane emitted globally last year could easily be reduced with best practices.
That would give the world a much-improved chance of limiting temperature rises to 1.5C above preindustrial levels, requiring an investment worth about 5% of last year's enormous profits made by fossil fuel companies.
