""This 5.25-mile hilly challenge will feed the soul as we dip down past small creeks and back up again, with redwoods, prairies, oak woodland, and mixed forest in between," the district says."
The East Bay Regional Park District is waiving all entrance and parking fees on the Friday after Thanksgiving, naming the day Green Friday, and offering free fishing and boat launching at some locations on Friday, Nov. 28. Group activities and hikes are scheduled across regional parks, including a 9 a.m. "hike amongst the trees" at Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park. The Reinhardt route is a 5.25-mile hilly challenge that passes small creeks, redwoods, prairies, oak woodland, and mixed forest; participants should meet at the Trudeau Training Center with no registration required. Additional hikes, volunteer opportunities, and children's activities will be available at other parks; some require registration. Ten East Bay Regional Park District locations are in Oakland, with most parks offering free entrance year-round.
