Dense fog advisory in place for Delta until Saturday midday quarter mile visibility
"If a dense fog advisory is issued for your area, it means that widespread dense fog has developed and visibility often drops to just a quarter-mile or less. These conditions can make driving challenging, so exercise extreme caution on the road, and if possible, consider delaying your trip. If you must drive in foggy conditions, keep the following safety tips in mind:"
"Reduce speed: Slow down and allow extra travel time to reach your destination safely. Visibility priority: Ensure your vehicle is visible to others by using low-beam headlights, which also activate your taillights. If available, employ your fog lights. Avoid high-beams: Refrain from using high-beam lights, as they create glare, making it more difficult for you to see what's ahead of you on the road."
"Maintain safe gaps: Maintain a generous following distance to account for abrupt stops or shifting traffic patterns. Stay in your lane: Use the road's lane markings as a guide to remaining in the correct lane. Visibility near zero: In extremely dense fog where visibility is near zero, the best course of action is to first turn on your hazard lights, then simply pull into a safe location such as a parking lot of a local business, and stop."
A dense fog advisory was issued at 9:34 a.m. for Carquinez Strait and Delta, Southern Sacramento Valley, and Northern San Joaquin Valley and remains in effect until noon. Visibility may fall to one quarter mile or less, creating hazardous driving conditions. Drivers should slow down, use low-beam headlights and fog lights when available, and avoid high-beam headlights that cause glare. Maintain generous following distances and use lane markings to stay in the correct lane. If visibility becomes near zero, turn on hazard lights and pull into a safe location; once stationary, deactivate all lights except hazard flashers and engage the emergency brake.
