Dense fog advisory in place for Delta until Friday morning visibility as low as 1/4 mile
"When a dense fog advisory is issued for your area, it means that widespread dense fog has developed and visibility can plummet to a quarter-mile or less. These conditions pose challenges for travel, so exercise extra caution on the road or consider postponing your trip if possible. If you must drive in foggy conditions, keep the following safety tips in mind:"
"Reduce speed: Slow down and allow extra travel time to reach your destination safely. Visibility priority: Ensure your vehicle is visible to others by using low-beam headlights, which also activate your taillights. If available, employ your fog lights. Avoid high-beams: Refrain from using high-beam headlights, as they create glare that impairs your visibility on the road. Keep your distance: Maintain a significant following distance to account for abrupt stops or shifts in traffic patterns."
Dense fog is affecting Carquinez Strait and Delta, Southern Sacramento Valley, and Northern San Joaquin Valley and will persist until 10 a.m., reducing visibility to a quarter-mile or less. Visibility at one quarter mile or less creates hazardous driving conditions and increases the risk of collisions. Drivers should slow down, use low-beam headlights and fog lights if available, maintain large following distances, and stay within lane markings. Avoid high-beam headlights because they produce glare that worsens visibility. In near-zero visibility, activate hazard lights and pull into a secure parking area or, if none exists, pull as far off the roadway as possible and secure the vehicle.
