"We're here because we very much believe and respect the science," Sultan Al Jaber, who is also head of the United Arab Emirates' national oil company ADNOC, told a press conference in Dubai, where COP28 is underway.
"Absolutely not," he said in an interview in Riyadh. "And I assure you not a single person I'm talking about governments believes in that."
The Guardian newspaper published a video on Sunday showing Jaber speaking at an online forum during which he questioned whether ending use of fossil fuels was necessary to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius from pre-industrial levels.
