"We can implement that in other buildings in the city [where] it makes sense, in your local hospital, your libraries, even your apartment complexes,"
"It's been excellent, especially during this cold snap,"
"Burning this 100% biodiesel fuel, we have an opportunity to not only have an impact in climate change, but also make the air in New York City cleaner,"
Edward R. Murrow High School now heats its facilities entirely with vegetable oil–derived biofuel. The school's four basement boilers use a clean-burning, low-emission fuel processed from vegetable oil. The system offers potential for broader deployment in hospitals, libraries, and apartment complexes where appropriate. The conversion can significantly reduce carbon emissions and help mitigate urban air pollution. The boilers performed reliably during recent cold snaps, maintaining comfortable indoor temperatures for a large school population. Burning 100% biodiesel contributes to improved air quality and public health. Students also cultivate produce hydroponically in the school’s environmental lab.
