""to be a huge precipitation event for the Bay Area.""
""Sometimes, people conflate [that] atmospheric rivers equal a big bad storm,""
""That's not always going to be true. Sometimes they're quite gentle, gradual, or beneficial. Sometimes, though, they can be a big problem.""
An atmospheric river will produce wind, downpours, thunderstorms, and potential power outages across the Bay Area, with the heaviest rainfall expected around Thursday morning commute. Wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph, and a high wind warning is in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday for the coastal North Bay, Marin hills, and San Francisco Peninsula. Modeling indicates the event could reach a 3 across the Bay Area on the atmospheric river scale, but the system is not expected to stall, limiting total rainfall. Another weak system may bring light rain this weekend and early next week.
