""Nearly all of us will have some level of PFAS in our bodies. But evidence we heard throughout our inquiry suggests that our dependence on PFAS has come with a cost to the environment, and perhaps to human health too.""
""The public should not panic, but now is the time to act before pollution gets worse.""
PFAS chemicals, used for stain and water resistance in various products, raise environmental and health concerns due to their persistence. A group of MPs has recommended a ban on PFAS unless manufacturers prove their necessity or lack alternatives. Academics and environmental groups support this recommendation. The government is considering it while promoting its own PFAS plan. PFAS, with over 15,000 substances, are found in many products but do not easily break down in the environment. Some PFAS are toxic and carcinogenic, increasing health risks.
