One group that the research largely ignores is the children of the global south, who are disproportionately affected by plastic waste. When China stopped accepting plastic waste, countries like Malaysia and Ghana saw an increase in waste arriving at their shores.

The additive chemicals in microplastics are slowly poisoning everyone, but research has failed to account for the specific impact on different populations.
