Amazon has joined the Water-AI Nexus Center of Excellence, a coalition with the Water Environment Federation, The Water Center at the University of Pennsylvania and Leading Utilities of the World. The coalition seeks to ensure AI datacentres use water more sustainably and to prevent AI growth from depleting global water supplies. The group will draw on expertise across academia, the water industry, utilities and tech to maximise efficiency, eliminate unnecessary water use and invest in community-tailored solutions. The coalition will also apply AI to address water scarcity and insecurity. The group released a roadmap for datacentre operators to minimise water usage without jeopardising innovation and is inviting broader participation.
