Disney is set to launch a new sports streaming service simply named ESPN in August 2024. This revamped platform comes following the failure of a joint venture with Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery. Priced at $29.99 per month, the new service promises a wider array of programming than its predecessor ESPN+. The offering includes live games, original content, and documentaries. ESPN's chairman, Jimmy Pitaro, stated the straightforward naming approach aims to simplify user experience while keeping ESPN+ as part of the bundle.
Disney has revealed that the new sports streamer will simply be named ESPN and launch in August at a base price of $29.99 a month.
Despite being priced more than double its predecessor, the new ESPN is expected to offer a broader range of programming and live events.
ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro emphasized the name change was a decision towards simplicity and straightforwardness for their viewers.
With ESPN+ remaining part of a bundle, Disney aims to maintain both streaming services while providing more extensive content in the new ESPN app.
