Watford FC has parted ways with head coach Tom Cleverley after a disappointing 14th-place finish in the Championship, failing to qualify for the play-offs. Cleverley, who was appointed as interim head coach in March 2024 and confirmed in the role permanently soon after, managed 60 games with a record of 20 wins and 26 losses. Despite a strong start with an unbeaten home record, the team's performance dipped significantly. Sporting director Gian Luca Nani expressed the need for change to support a promising young squad.
"It has been a privilege to work closely with Tom; to understand how he sees the game and his enthusiasm for everything here. He deserves to be recognised for this and I'm sure he will have a bright future in the game."
"The time has come for a change and to build on what we believe is a young and talented squad that will have benefited from the experience of the Championship this season."
