Galway beat Kilkenny in Portlaoise to add the Leinster U-20 crown to a minor title won two nights earlier. Aaron Niland missed the matchday panel through injury, while Jason Rabbitte played about 30 minutes and was effective without being decisive. With Niland out, Jack Shaughnessy moved to full-forward and took over free-taking, scoring an early goal after good approach play from Vince Morgan. Kilkenny briefly leveled through Ed Lauhoff after Chris Callanan’s save set up Ed McDermott’s shot. Galway then pulled away before half-time with five points in as many minutes, including scores from Michael Burke and Cullen Killeen and a sharp interception and finish by Brian Callanan. After a quieter third quarter, Galway surged with a 1-7 to 0-1 run, capped by Vince Morgan’s goal.
