"For over 20 years, we've been addressing our budget one year at a time. We've made some decisions, but we've not made enough decisions to be able to make real significant changes, so that we're not every year talking about needing to make an adjustment in the double-digit millions," said Lisa Grant-Dawson, OUSD's chief budget officer, to the board last week. "We must develop a sustainable budget."
"None of us run for office with the intention of being austerity agents or with the intent of closing schools," Davis said during a special meeting of the OUSD board last Thursday. "It comes from a superintendent coming to a board with the very painful recognition that there do have to be adjustments made for the health and well-being of the district overall."
