Last week, Columbia University president Minouche Shafik allowed the NYPD onto campus to arrest students at the school's Gaza Solidarity Encampment; similar encampments have appeared at many colleges and universities, despite efforts to dismantle them.
More than 30 students were arrested at Indiana University and a dozen at Ohio State University; students claimed snipers on campus rooftops. Emory University faced violent crackdowns with 28 arrested, alleging police used tear gas and Tasing.
Some of the most violent crackdowns occurred at Emory University, where police videos showed students being brought to the ground for detention; 28 people were arrested. Students also protested the university's involvement in a police-training facility dubbed 'Cop City.'
Among those arrested at Emory was Noelle McAfee, Chair of the Philosophy Department.
