UC in-state enrollment highest ever as Berkeley, UCLA seat more Black and Latino students

The University of California achieved a record enrollment of 198,718 Californians in Fall 2024, continuing a trend of expanding access while navigating challenges in diversity post-affirmative action.

UC President Michael V. Drake stated, 'The University of California is committed to expanding access and opportunity, helping our state's brightest students from all backgrounds realize the value and promise of a UC degree.'

The UC system faced intense pressure for increasing enrollment of Californian students, despite declines in Black and Latino admissions facing many elite institutions after the Supreme Court's decision.

While certain campuses like UC San Diego saw increases, others like UC Irvine and UC Merced reported declines in California enrollment, indicating varying trends across the system.
