These five Oakland charter schools may close this year

Five Oakland charter schools are facing closure this year after their charters were not renewed, impacting over 1,500 students and their families who must now seek new schools.

In the past five years, the number of charter schools in Oakland has decreased from 45 to 38, potentially dropping to 33 this fall if renewals are not granted.

This year, the OUSD board held renewal hearings for nine schools, approving six, while AIMS II and LPS Oakland R&D opted to appeal their denied renewals.
