A survey by disability charity Sense found that 47 per cent of parents shared this concern. The poll of 1,000 Send parents highlighted the profound impact on families, with more than a third (35 per cent) reporting they had left their jobs due to a lack of appropriate support for their child."
Nearly half of parents with children who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) fear vital support could be reduced while they await details of planned government reforms. A Sense survey of 1,000 SEND parents found 47% share this concern. More than a third (35%) reported leaving jobs due to lack of appropriate support, and 40% reported cutting working hours. The government is expected to publish a Schools White Paper outlining plans to overhaul the SEND system, with much debate focusing on limiting Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) to highest-need cases because rising EHCP numbers have increased local authority costs.
