"At Bard Graduate Center, we study the human past and present through their material expressions, focusing on objects and other material forms - from those valued for their aesthetic elements to the ordinary things used in everyday life. We apply equal intellectual rigor to our acclaimed exhibitions, award-winning catalogues and scholarly publications, and innovative public programs, all of which are vital to our curriculum."
Bard Graduate Center hosts open houses at its NYC campus for prospective students to meet faculty, current students, and tour library and exhibitions while learning about financial aid and housing. The program centers on object-based study of decorative arts, design history, and material culture, treating both aesthetic and everyday objects with scholarly rigor. The school maintains institutional relationships with major museums including The Met, Brooklyn Museum, and American Museum of Natural History. More than 90% of students receive housing assistance and over 65% live in Bard Hall. Alumni work across museums, auction houses, and universities worldwide. Applications are due December 15; visits can be scheduled by email.
