Santa Clara County DA looks into alleged misuse of school funds - San Jose Spotlight
"Board members can use professional development funds for coursework at accredited colleges or universities — and critics should take it up with the district attorney if they felt there was improper behavior."
"As a former Alum Rock teacher, I look forward to the independent investigation's findings to help strengthen confidence that (Alum Rock Union School District) resources are being used in ways that best support students and our community."
"they are reviewing the issue."
Andres Quintero, vice president of the Alum Rock Union School District board, received $22,700 from the district for college classes toward a doctorate. Parents and community advocates demanded that Quintero return the funds or resign and filed complaints with the district, county office of education, civil grand jury, district attorney and the Fair Political Practices Commission. The district attorney's office is reviewing the matter. The county office of education's fiscal crisis and management assistance team is investigating as part of an audit of alleged misuse of public funds. Quintero is a professor at Evergreen Valley College and did not respond to requests for comment. The district says it takes allegations of misused public funds seriously.
