San Jose State plans major campus redesign - San Jose Spotlight
Briefly

San Jose State University (SJSU) aims to accommodate a projected enrollment increase of 8,000 students by 2040 through its Campus Master Plan. This plan includes 2 million square feet of new academic space, demolition, and transformation of existing facilities into open spaces, as well as the introduction of 2,100 additional student housing beds. This initiative, expected to raise the on-campus living student percentage from 13% to 19%, reflects SJSU's commitment to meeting the educational demands of its growing community, which anticipates enrollment growth from 36,000 to 44,000.
"The demand for an SJSU education and the opportunity it provides has never been greater and this plan, including expanded housing capacity for an additional 2,100 students, is the roadmap to meeting that demand and serving our Spartan community well."
SJSU expects the California State University Office of the Chancellor to certify the plan during the spring semester, paving the way for renovations and increased student housing.
With an increase in transfer, graduate, out-of-state and international students, the university projects enrollment to grow from 36,000 to 44,000 throughout the renovation.
The university has begun making those moves with the purchase of the south tower from the Signia by Hilton, aimed at accommodating more students in the downtown area.
