""What we're asking for is what every worker in the city should be getting," she said. "We should be getting a livable wage, we should be getting an organization that is well organized and efficient. We're just not seeing that right now, and we're not seeing them come to the table with anything that we can really accept moving forward." - Béatrice Vallières"
"After a lengthy stalemate, teachers today commenced the district's first educator walkout since 1979."
"With "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz playing in the background, some 40 teachers walked the picket line with signs reading "on strike for our students" in English, Chinese and Spanish."
Thousands of San Francisco public school teachers, principals, administrators and unionized staff walked out across the district, marking the first educator strike since 1979. Picket lines formed outside schools citywide and a 1 p.m. rally was planned at Civic Center Plaza. Demonstrators cited special education department disarray, insufficient wages failing to match rising costs of living, and organizational inefficiencies as central grievances. Small groups of teachers and supporters marched in neighborhoods like the Tenderloin and along 19th Avenue, drawing honks and music while holding multilingual signs demanding livable wages and better support for students and staff.
