"Our community is standing with us in our fight for the consistent classroom teachers, special education supports, and stable programs our students and families need and deserve,"
"remain committed to negotiating in good faith with UESF and working toward an agreement that supports our students, educators, and school communities."
More than 5,200 members of United Educators of San Francisco voted 97.6% in favor of authorizing a strike to press for increased public education funding and stronger school supports. The union represents San Francisco Unified School District workers, including educators, nurses, counselors, and psychologists. Union leaders flagged district practices of placing money into savings and contracting out special education work to traveling psychologists and non-district staff as key concerns. The Board of Education scheduled a special meeting to address labor negotiations and a resolution granting the superintendent authority for operational decisions in the event of a strike. San Francisco last experienced an educator strike in 1979, and educators in Southern California are also signaling potential labor actions.
